Updata became a Plc in 1998 when it successfully raised about 2,000,000GBP through a private placing. This increased the shareholder base to about one hundred and ten individuals and institutions.

As Technical Director of Updata Plc, Stephen was responsible for Research and Development (R&D) of products, and all technical activities. The Java-based product is hosted in a facility in London and comprises of about 8 servers.
In August 2001 Stephen resigned from the board of Updata Plc to pursue emerging opportunities in the ICT sector in Nigeria.
