Background information on Updata Plc
Updata Plc was founded in 1991 by David Linton. Stephen Onerhime joined in 1992 as number two employee. There were eleven (11) customers using a DOS-based project offering stock market traders information about the London Stock Exchange. The information was delivered over a television antenna.

Over the years the product was re-engineered in for Windows using C and Windows SDK, C/C++ and MFC, C/C+ and ActiveX, and C/C++, Java and SQL. The product range broadened to include:
• Charting and Technical Analysis
• Quotes review and analysis
• News information and analysis
• Company fundamentals and analysis
• Portfolio management
• Real-time Chat and Collaborative environment

Updata became a Plc in 1998 when it successfully raised about 2,000,000GBP through a private placing. This increased the shareholder base to about one hundred and ten individuals and institutions.

The latest version of the Updata product range has been developed using Java technology. The applications can be downloaded by visiting www.updata.co.uk. Streaming real-time information from the world’s leading exchanges including LSE, LIFFE, NYSE, NASDAQ are available. The web site www.updata.co.uk is a full blown e-commerce site that provides:
• Product information
• Payment system using credit cards
• Download of product trials and fully-paid products
• Management of product issues list and distribution of service packs
• Financial content management (shares prices, news and fundamental information)
• Management of marketing activities
• Intranet for customer relationship management

As Technical Director of Updata Plc, Stephen was responsible for Research and Development (R&D) of products, and all technical activities. The Java-based product is hosted in a facility in London and comprises of about 8 servers.
In August 2001 Stephen resigned from the board of Updata Plc to pursue emerging opportunities in the ICT sector in Nigeria. He is still a shareholder of Updata and provides advisory services to the management and development team of Updata.
